The Faces of KION North America: Our Leaders on Leadership – Brian Brookshire, Warehouse Supervisor

In this special segment of the Faces of KION North America, we had the opportunity to chat with Brian Brookshire, Warehouse Supervisor.

Along with being a leader in our organization, Brian was also recently voted as the Employee of the Quarter by his peers.

Find out Brian’s thoughts on his role within the organization and the attributes he feels make an employee stand out.

While being a teammate at KION North America for 18 years, what accomplishment makes you most proud?

My department being consistently one of, if not the best, in the company.

What do you think makes an employee stand out in an organization?

One who does the jobs that nobody else wants to do, because they understand the endgame of their task.

What motivates you?

This is just the way that I’m hardwired.

What is it about the culture at KION NA that makes you excel in your position?

Management has afforded me the opportunity to supervise the employees the way that I’ve been doing it for years. Work can be monotonous, and you spend more time with your co-workers than you do at your house with your family, so you might as well have a little fun (I am a little bit of a prankster 😊).

The recipe for success is easy – a happy worker is a good worker. I’ve always been in the trenches with them, so that they know I’d never ask them to do something that I would not do.

Don’t just have your people come in to work for you, have them willing to run through a brick wall for you.

What do you think it takes to be an exceptional teammate?

The ability to listen and give sincere feedback with work-related tasks.

Which KION Group shared value resonates most with you? Integrity, Courage, Collaboration, or Excellence?

While they are all extremely important, integrity would be the one that resonates the most with me. This value is the one that really shows what you’re made of and what kind of a person you are not only at work, but in your personal life as well.

Looking to the future, what are you most excited about?

We are now in a new building and getting things set up the way that we want. I am looking forward to things that will make work easier and more efficient for the employees, and better for our customers. It’s been extremely busy for us over the last eight months, and the future looks busy as well, so I’m thankful that I’m fortunate enough to have the Customer Service Department alongside for whatever comes up next.
